Maker: Hermanus Frey
Description: This is a very interesting viola made by an otherwise, unknown German maker, Herman Frey. This appears to have been made in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1831 as indicated by the original label. We are continuing to research this maker but information from Russia is difficult to come by. The viola is an excellent example of early 19th century work and is an affordable alternative due to the fact that the maker is not known yet. The sound is rich and complex with excellent power in a comfortable size. Back length: 16 1/4” (41.3 cm.) String length: 14 5/8” (37.2 cm.).
