Description: François Lupot II was born in Orleans and was first taught the art of violin making from his father, François I. His older brother, Nicolas Lupot, went on to be a renowned violin maker. It is unclear where François Lupot learned how to make bows, but his early work shows a pronounced Tourte influence and he seems to have worked for Leonard Tourte in Paris. Lupot set up his own firm in Paris in 1815 and quickly became a respected maker of high-quality bows.

The octagonal stick is made of dark brown pernambuco and is 72.8 cm long. The frog is ebony with silver mountings and inlaid pearl eyes. The button is ebony with two silver rings. At this time, this bow is in an excellent state of preservation. Weight: 60.8 grams. Certified by Bernard Millant.
