Description: Son of Sebastian Maire, Nicolas Maire was born in Mirecourt, France in the year 1800. It is likely that he began his bow making career under Etienne Pajeot in his home town. At the age of twenty-six, Maire had gained the prestige and status to set up on his own account. After years of enduring tough economic times, Nicolas Maire departed for Paris and worked for several firms before reestablishing himself independently. Since his passing in 1878, Maire has left a lasting legacy of superb craftsmanship and attentiveness. This particular bow was made circa 1835 and remains a fine example of Maire’s work. Robust and a superb playing stick. Silver and ebony mounted. Weight: 62 grams. Certified by Paul Childs
