Description: J.H. Schult was a Northern German violin maker who set up his workshop in Lubeck in 1896 and was appointed luthier to the Grand Duke of Mecklenburg in 1907. His workmanship and materials were both very fine: Schult was awarded medals for his making at both Turin and Schwerin. Tragically, he was forced to retire in 1942 when heavy bombing of the port city destroyed his workshop. Schult died in Lubeck in 1949.
This cello is an excellent example of the Schult’s workshop. The cello is a beautiful Stradivari model with 2 piece, flamed, maple back. Clear, rich and powerful tone.
