Fifth in a line of successful German bow makers, Franz Albert Nurnberger Jr gradually developed his family's model into one of the most convincing interpretations of François Xavier Tourte in modern bow making. He began branding his bows around 1890 and inherited the workshop in 1894. The elder Franz Albert was known for high-quality bows made in the old German style, but after beginning in this vein, his son began to experiment with French models after the turn of the century, and settled on Tourte around 1908. Franz Albert found a suitable clientele for his firm's product in the Rembert Wurlitzer Company, and soon began exporting many high-quality bows to the United States, where they were nearly as acclaimed as their French counterparts. His son Carl Albert took over the firm in the 1920s and perfected the firm's flagship bow, propelling them to great success well into the 20th century. Bows for the firm are stamped, "Albert Nürnberger.”

This bow is in excellent condition and is a stunning example of Franz Albert’s early work. Mounted in gold and ebony. Certified by Isaac Salchow of NY. Bears the later brand of Francois Lotte, Paris. Weight: 59.2 grams.
