Instrument Type: Violin
Item #: 000-1013
Year: 1734

Maker: Carlo Antonio Testore
Description: (1693 – c. 1765) Carlo Antonio Testore was the eldest of Carlo Giuseppe's sons, and his instruments still show the mark of Grancino visible in his father's work. In general Carlo Antonio's work appears hasty and less distinguished, often with false purfling on the back and flat-backed pegboxes. This lack of refinement in execution may have resulted from the somewhat premature death of his father, which left Carlo Antonio and his 16-year-old brother Paolo in charge of the business. Carlo Antonio's son Giovanni assisted him towards the end of his career.
This lovely instrument is a gorgeous example of Carlo’s work. The instrument must have started out its life as a smallish viola and was subsequently cut down to its current violin dimensions. The ff’s have been altered slightly on the eyes to modify them to the proper violin size as well. The sound is rich and powerful with a fantastic projection. Certified by Bein & Fushi.
Back length: 35.85 cm.
