Maker: Eero Haahti, Helsinki Finland
Description: This violin is a beautiful Guarneri, ‘il Cannone’ copy, made in a way that may represent how the genuine violin originally looked. A full varnish of orange-brown color; no antiquing or distressing of any kind. This is a beautiful representation of a non-antiqued, Guarneri copy and not some slavish “Elvis Impersonator". The sound is also faithful to the original design of Del Gesu. It is rich and powerful which only grows stronger as the violin is pushed. This violin appreciates more aggressive players who will demand a lot from their instrument. Back length: 35.7 cm.
Violin and Bowmaker Eero Haahti began his career as workshop manager for Etienne Vatelot in Paris where he was in charge of the restoration of Stradivari and Guarneri violins. He is sought after for restoration work and his instruments and bows are played in orchestras throughout Europe. In 2010 he won several awards at the VSA competition including a Gold medal.
