Description: Born in a small parish just outside of Milan in 1730, Pietro Giovanni Mantegazza quickly became one of the most highly regarded makers in Italy during his time. He began his studies under the highly esteemed Carlo Ferdinando Landolfi, and had the great benefit of becoming close with violin connoisseur Count Cozio di Salabue. After studying with Landolfi, Mantegazza started his own shop in 1761, where his two sons would end up working as well. He had the great honor of restoring many of the finest classical instruments due to his connection with Count Cozio. According to the English critic, William Henley, Pietro Mantegazza’s work is considered, “ Flawless and completed on the finest quality wood.” Back Length: 35.6 cm.
