Meet with Internationally Renowned Bowmaker Isaac Salchow

salchowIssac Salchow brings his passion and expertise to Benning Violins' storied Los Angeles violin shop.

Isaac Salchow was born and raised in Northern California. At the age of 19, he moved to New York City to study bowmaking with his grandfather, William Salchow, and to work in his shop. From the beginning of his career, Isaac has been inspired by the great masters in his making and historical research. Aside from making bows he does all of the expertise that carries the family name, and those certificates are sought after world wide.

He has taken part in various international exhibitions, such as exhibitor and speaker at the first ever François Xavier Tourte exhibition organized by Paul Childs and hosted by the Royal Academy of Music in London, every year he is a guest at The Juilliard School to speak to students about proper bow care and the making of bows, and is working on publishing his first book on the life work of Eugene Nicolas Sartory. Isaac is a partner with Stephan Jansen in the French Bow Research Institute which is dedicated to the study of the history and evolution of the French bow.

Since taking over the Salchow shop in 2009, the family business has continued to grown to become one of the leading bow shops in the world for expertise, repair and sales of fine bows. Isaac lives in Brooklyn and enjoys riding his motorcycle and spending time with his wife Amanda.
